A visit to Dallas wouldn’t be complete without an icy cold margarita to beat the heat. Fortunately, nearly every restaurant and bar has their own variation, from classic lime margaritas to more unusual flavour combinations. Whether you take yours frozen or on the rocks, with salt or without, the best margaritas in Dallas come with a kick.
If there were an official tour of the best margaritas in Dallas, Mariano’s would definitely be the first stop. It’s here (not this exact restaurant, but the same family) where Mariano Martinez introduced the world to his revolutionary invention: the frozen margarita machine. Perfectly smooth and equally tart and sweet, their Original Frozen might not be perfectly presented, but it’s still one of the best in town.
Craft cocktails have enjoyed a resurgence in popularity over the last several years and The Cedars Social was one of the first players during the comeback. The 1970s-themed cocktail den serves Tequila Por Mi Amante (Tequila for My Lover), with strawberry-infused Don Julio Silver, fresh lemon juice, cane syrup and club soda for a little fizz.
If you find yourself downtown, pop into Wild Salsa for an avocado margarita. The creamy concoction blends roasted pineapple and jalapeo-infused tequila with hand-pressed lime juice, agave nectar, Hass avocado, and ice. Trust us, it works.
At Abacus, a fine dining restaurant from celebrity chef Kent Rathbun, the fiery Fresno Rita comes with double the peppers. Tequila Cabeza is blended with julienned jalapeo and Fresno peppers, agave nectar, and fresh lime – one of the best margaritas in Dallas for those who can handle the heat.
For an Asian twist on the classic margarita, try the ChulaRita at Pakpao. There, you’ll get a frozen cocktail made with lemongrass and orange-peel-infused tequila, lemongrass water, prickly pear liqueur, and lime. Wonderfully refreshing.
Get back to basics with the Flama De Asador at Asador, set inside the Renaissance Hotel. Simply prepared, this rocks margarita features Siembre Azul tequila, fresh lime juice and cane syrup. Alternatively, opt for something a little more unusual and have it made with one of the bar’s 50 other hand-selected tequilas.
There are several Cantina Laredo locations around town where you can try their signature Casa Rita margarita, or opt for a hibiscus version with 1800 silver tequila, Cointreau, hibiscus syrup, and lime juice, shaken and poured into a sugar-rimmed glass with a wild hibiscus flower garnish.
Found in the Dallas Arts District, Jorge’s Tex-Mex Cafe makes a tropical-inspired frozen coconut margarita with organic tequila blanco, coconut puree and coconut water. Lime juice is added before blending and the cocktail is topped with strawberries and coconut shavings.
With two locations in town, Meso Maya makes one of the best margaritas in Dallas. The Serrano Berry Margarita, an on-the-rocks blend of white tequila, fresh strawberries, lime and Serrano peppers, offers a balanced fruity-spicy fix.
Komali bartender Leann Berry is always winning awards for her margaritas, but it’s the Caliente Clementine that’s really making the headlines. Herradura Double Barrel Reposado tequila (created specifically for the restaurant) is mixed with tangerine puree, habaero peppers, Cointreau, and fresh lime, and served over ice.
