Today is WE Day UK, the biggest day in our calendar. Conceived by our partner charity WE, this annual event is a celebration of young people making a difference in their communities. Whether you’re one of our staff volunteers or in the audience of 12,000 schoolchildren, students and teachers, we’d like to say a massive thank you for taking part. You’re in for an exhilarating, emotional and inspiring day.

This year, for the first time, the WE team held a Pep Rally at our West Sussex training centre to thank our people for the work they do and to give those who can’t attend a taste of the WE Day event.

Joining Marc Kielberger (international activist and co-founder of WE.org) were some of the superstar line-up who’ll be at Wembley today.

Rock legend, aviator, brewer and inspirational speaker Bruce Dickinson. He spoke about the young people of the WE movement being able to reach higher, of airlines on their ability to connect people, and the importance of face to face communication. He also shared his dislike of smartphones and revealed he still uses an ancient Nokia, then regaled us with tales of running around on stage as lead singer of heavy metal band Iron Maiden.

The event was hosted by Spencer West, bestselling author, WE ambassador, inspirational speaker and great friend of Virgin Atlantic. Spencer lost both his legs at the age of five, but went on to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro using a wheelchair and his hands. Learn more about his incredible story here.
