December 30, 2019

It's been another epic year at Ruby Blog as we've searched out the most interesting stories about our people, our planes, our planet and the places we fly to. Read on for a selection of our most popular and talked about posts from the last twelve months.

Our people

Looking after our customers takes a huge team effort. Here’s a few of the stories we’ve posted about our people this year:

We were four young pilots…100 years of flying

Meet Paul, Chris P, Robbie and Chris B, four pilots who joined us 25 years ago and have been flying our customers safely around the world for a combined total of a hundred years.

Charlie Gould and Tinker Belle

Charlie collected this Boeing 747 brand new from the factory in 1996 and he was at Gatwick to sign it off on its retirement flight 23 years later.

A life in the day: Scott Coley, flight service manager

Travel with Scott on a flight to Barbados to find what it takes to do this very special job.

Bob Wallace reflects on World Pride

To celebrate World Pride and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising we laid on a special Pride Flight. Bob, one of our airport managers in New York, talked to us about Pride and why it is so important.

Our planes

This year has been all about the Airbus A350, as we welcomed the super quiet, super efficient superjet into our fleet. We now have four of the aircraft flying and they’ve been getting rave reviews from our customers as well as the pilots and cabin crew who work on them.

Designed with love, built for the future

Find out more about the Airbus A350-1000 and the innovation, thoughtful features and Virgin Atlantic flair that went into its design.

Behind the scenes: A350 air-to-air photography

Captain Ian Black jumps in a military jet and chases our A350 around the skies of Wales. He came back with these extraordinary photos.

Collecting a brand new Airbus aircraft

A big moment for the A350 project team as they head to Toulouse to bring back our first A350; G-VLUX, Red Velvet.

How does aircraft landing gear work?

We also went behind the scenes to find out other cool stuff like this post about our how our engineers test the A330s landing gear.

The places we fly

In 2019 we launched a new route to Tel Aviv and made a colourful return to Mumbai

Tel Aviv

The people, the culture, the food and the glorious Mediterranean climate make Tel Aviv one of the greatest destinations on Earth.

Return to Mumbai

After a four year gap it was great to start flying again to Mumbai, India’s commercial centre.

Our planet

It’s the biggest issue of our age, and we wanted to share the actions we’re taking to reduce our carbon emissions, and how we’re leading the aviation industry on making change happen, faster.

The environment. Our three priorities

Find out about our ‘big 3’ carbon reduction plan

Amenity kits become goodie bags with a lot less plastic

It’s not just about the ‘big 3’ – we’re constantly looking for ways to reduce our impact.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to read our blog. We can’t wait to do it all again in 2020. Wishing all our readers and contributors a very Happy New Year.
