We’re flying back to 1986 when the fashion was firmly New Wave, Voyager 2 had just rounded Uranus and Virgin Atlantic was hitting the Beach. Richard Branson and a bevy of celebrities, party people and press were all onboard ‘Maiden Voyager’ as she landed at Miami International Airport for the first time.
Twenty five years later, we’re partying all over again. Our Red Hot Reporters have packed their pastels and are sipping Virgin Redheads in the Heathrow Clubhouse – haven’t we come a long way? Today we’re on our way back to the Magic City and have a busy few days ahead, getting our Miami Vice on and celebrating what has been a very successful route to a hugely exciting city.
Our itinerary is action packed – we’ve got everything from high-speed thrill rides to alligators, beach barbeques to cocktails at the Villa by Barton G., the former Versace Mansion.
We’ll be staying minutes away from central South Beach, at the beautiful Mondrian hotel overlooking Biscayne Bay, with spectacular views of the waterfront, ocean and downtown Miami.
We’ll also be touring the Everglades, cycling around South Beach, taking in Art Deco style and sunning ourselves in the 30 degree heat. But the highlight of it all will be our Birthday Bash! We’ll bring you all the party action from poolside at the spectacular Raleigh Hotel, which promises guests and fans an evening of Miami magic.
Come along for the ride as our Red Hot Reporters, Helen and Andrea, bring you their personal highlights of Miami. You can follow their live updates, tweets, pics and posts on Facebook and Twitter and read their impressions right here on the vtravelled blog soon after. If you’ve been to Miami, tweet or post your trip suggestions too.
