In Downtown Dayton, the Oregon District is where hip, young locals and travellers come to play. With a concentrated number of bars, restaurants, shops, and more, there’s always something exciting going on. Discover Dayton with our neighbourhood guide to the city’s hottest district.
Nowhere else in Dayton can you find so many fine dining establishments all on one street. Some of the best restaurants in Dayton are located in the Oregon District, including Roost Modern Italian, Lily’s Bistro, and Salar. These restaurants excel in crafting cutting edge cuisine with an exotic flair. Locals visit to celebrate anything from major life events such as engagements and birthdays to simply getting through another week at work.
For a restaurant that blends great food and a wide selection of drink options (namely beer) with live entertainment, check out buzzing Fifth Street Brewpub. The first co-op owned pub in Ohio really is the type of local you can call your very own, and beer lovers can enjoy mingling amongst like-minded revellers. There are also a number of great bars that score high on the food front too, with Oregon Express Dayton, Lucky’s Taproom & Eatery, Dublin Pub and Blind Bob’s offering hearty dishes alongside a great selection brews and ales. Fill up on rustic fare at Franco’s Ristorante Italiano or try out Thai 9‘s tasty sushi platters for a lighter bite. The Trolley Stop and Wheat Penny Oven & Bar are also great suppertime spots filled with Daytonians who want to make the most of a leisurely evening.
After you’ve had your fill of Dayton’s best food, make time to check out the city’s ever-evolving brewery scene. You’ll have your pick of handcrafted brews at Toxic Brew Company and Warped Wing Brewing Company, or try something a little more spirited at Belle of Dayton Distillery for small batch vodka to enjoy at home.
Even during the day, Dayton’s Oregon District offers many shops, services, and experiences that should not be missed. Get a fresh look at Derailed Hair Salon, shop for gifts at Peace on Fifth (a fantastic fair trade store), find a new outfit at Clash Consignment or Feathers Vintage Clothing, and top it all off with a hat from BRIM. Omega Music is also a great independent record store for one-off finds, while Bonnett’s Book Store is the perfect place for bookworms.
For something a little more active, climb to new heights at Urban Krag Climbing Center, or relax in front of a movie at Indie cinema The Neon. And when you find yourself in need of a caffeinated pick-me-up, you’ll find it at Press Coffee Bar.
Combining everything that gives Dayton its quirky, artistic personality, The Oregon District is a 12-block mini-metropolis all of its own.
