It’s January and we all know what that means. It’s detox time!

After an over-indulgent month of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Holiday parties, the turn of a new year generally means it’s time to pay a bit more attention to your health. Not only have we taken notice of this, we’ve introduced a special virgin cocktail for flyers who’ve vowed to put their wellbeing at the top of the agenda.

From January onwards passengers visiting our US Clubhouses can continue their health kick with a nutritious new Virgin Cocktail: the “˜Jumpstart Jetsetter’ mocktail – a perfect solution for those in need of a gentle winter boost.

The new Virgin Jumpstart Jetsetter mocktail

The Jumpstart Jetsetter will be available to Upper Class passengers travelling through one of our award-winning Clubhouses. Fancy a taste? Take a seat at the bar and let one of our mixologists craft this vitamin-stuffed mocktail in front of your eyes. The refreshing drink is made entirely from fresh ingredients that are beneficial to the body, including antioxidant-packed pineapple and circulation-boosting ginger, along with zero-fat egg whites, and fresh lemon, angostura bitters and mint to stimulate digestion. Top it off with alkaline coconut water, which has great cleansing effects on the body, and voila – a zesty, guilt-free way to kick off your journey. 

Beneficial Flying Food

In addition to the new Virgin cocktail, Mark Murphy, Virgin Atlantic’s Food & Beverage Expert and former chef, has combined his in-depth knowledge of food with top tips from the airline’s Chief Beauty Officer, Rebecca Creer, to create a health and wellness-inspired menu that includes ingredients to boost the immune system, enhance mood and detoxify the body.

Our healthy menu options

Mark and his team understand that many people look to become more healthy at this time of year, and makes the following suggestions from our menu for those looking to maintain a balanced diet at 35,000 feet:

“¢ Our ‘super food’ porridge, which is made with either water or soya milk and topped with dried cranberries and nuts

“¢ A fresh fruit salad, using the freshest seasonal fruit available

“¢ Delicious bamboo-steamed salmon with Asian vegetables and fresh ginger

“¢ Our light Wonton noodle soup, with bok choi and bean sprouts

“¢ A char-grilled French bean and spring onion salad

“¢ Traditional green salad

“¢ Our flavourful soy-marinated Ahi tuna loin, with Udon noodles and a Dashi broth

And for our passengers who take a holistic approach to health, the team have also pulled together some top-tips from a group of the hardiest frequent flyers around – our cabin crew. Experts in looking and feeling good from one side of the world to the other, their top recommendations include:

Coconut Water: Great for the aforementioned cleansing effects on the body, plus if you want to significantly reduce feelings of jet lag it’s imperative to stay hydrated on your flight – so top yourself up with plenty of water or coconut water!

Bananas: Eating bananas boosts serotonin, which stabilizes your mood and has a calming effect on the brain.

Pineapple: This tropical fruit contains high levels of vitamin C that helps improve your immune system. Pineapple juice also helps with digestion and aids in flushing your system.

Wheatgrass: Wheatgrass powder contains the same green pigment found in plants, and helps detox the liver as well as regulate digestion. Some of our crew swear by organic powder wheatgrass which they mix in with fruit juice to create a natural flush.

But of course, we say a little bit of what you fancy won’t do you any harm now and then, and Mark agrees.

“Offering choice in our Clubhouses remains our priority, so our regular customers need not fear – all of our regular cocktails, from the Virgin Redhead to the Love Potion will still be available,” he confirms.
