Kimpton hotels have just launched a “Live Like a Local” programme offering staff recommendations for a true DC experience. Jorge E. Trevio talks to us about Washington’s social scene and the best place to go for a “real drink””¦
Where do you go to brunch with friends?
I really love Sunday brunch at Founding Farmers, with its farm-to-table inspired fare. It’s fun to see a nice crowd dressed in their Sunday finest enjoying a meal out. However, if I’m looking for something easy and a little more relaxed in my neighbourhood (Logan Circle), I head over to Jeff Black’s Pearl Dive Oyster Palace. They have the most amazing sweet potato hash and I also love their gumbo with braised duck.
Where do you like to go for cocktails?
You cannot go wrong at The Gibson. I’ll admit I’m a beer guy, but when I’m craving a real drink this place cannot be beat. They serve up some truly craft cocktails in a great setting – this place is a total escape for me.
What neighbourhood should a visitor head to for funky décor and accessories shopping?
In the last 5-10 years a ton of great home décor stores have opened along the U Street corridor and 14th Street. This can make for a fun Sunday afternoon of window-shopping. One of my personal favourites is Vastu – they have awesome stuff for the home. I’m always finding inspiration for my own home design there.
Kimpton properties are known for out-of-the-box fitness options – where do you like to work out?
My favourite gym is One to One Fitness – they are all small places with really great trainers – totally personalised workouts and they kick my butt.
Travelling is a major part of your life and work, is there a favourite spa you like to go to when you’re in the city to unwind?
One of the perks of my job is that I’ve had the chance to visit spas all over the world, and hands down I have to say that The Spa at DC’s Sports Club LA is my absolute favourite. They just get everything right.
