Pride 2016 London

By: Dave Gunner

June 29, 2016

pic0431 members of the Virgin Atlantic team, representing everyone from ground staff to cabin crew, joined our fellow Virgin company colleagues at Pride, London, for a day of inclusion that took in all members of society, not just LGBT. We are also proud to show our support for everyone impacted by the recent terrible event in Orlando.
Virgin joined 300 other organisations, companies and charities from across London and the UK for a parade through London.

Tega Bains at Pride, LondonTeja Bains (above), one of our Employee Relations Consultants:

“With the sad news of the shootings in Orlando and the murder of Jo Cox it was clear to me I wanted to be in the Pride Parade this year. My first Pride. We all live once and should all celebrate life, love, diversity and acceptance.

This year’s Pride was opened by Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley with the ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ movie coming out on 1 July 2016.  Before we got on the ‘Love Bus’ for the parade we all got to know each other, take photos, and meet the beautiful drag queen, La Voix who is in the new ‘Ab Fab’ movie.

So how was the parade?  The sunshine, creative art, community spirit and non-judgemental love was for all of us to share – for those in the parade and those supporting.  The euphoric feeling of love was apparent and it was a joy to connect with people in the parade as well as within our own Virgin Family – Virgin Active,  Virgin Care, Virgin Holidays, Virgin Management, Virgin Media, Virgin Money and Virgin Trains (East & West Coast).

Would I do it again?  As a ‘Virgin’…in a heartbeat.  Everyday should be a Pride Parade!  There’s a sweetie and darling in all of us and it truly was an absolutely fabulous experience!”

Richard Marks from our Customer Relations team (nice picture Richard!):

“To represent the Virgin family and Virgin Atlantic at Pride was a unique and uplifting experience. The streets were lined with many thousands of cheering people. I found it to be both amazing and reaffirming. I was personally proud show how inclusive all Virgin companies are.”
