Finding the right people to work at Virgin Atlantic is the obsession of our recruitment team. In order to find those special people that can give our customers great service and peace of mind they often look beyond the usual online recruitment process. This week we found our recruitment team at a job fair in the Westfield Shopping Mall in West London. Joining the recruitment team were representatives from Virgin Holidays retail stores, our Clubhouse team, engineers and Cabin Crew.
Katie Pinner is our Manager of Operational Recruitment. She is responsible for finding the right people in our cabin crew, airports, customer service, pilots, engineers and contact centre teams. We asked her what she was doing in the middle of a London shopping centre!
“The reason we’re here today is to look for new and different ways to engage with job seekers.” Says Katie. “With the majority of recruiting moving online I still think there’s nothing better than having face to face conversations with prospective employees. At something like this we can meet some great people who might not have considered Virgin Atlantic as somewhere they could work. It’s great to bring people from different areas of the business out here to have a real conversation about what life at Virgin Atlantic is really like”.
“What many people don’t realise is that we recruit doctors, nurses, waiters and hairdressers as well as pilots and cabin crew. We’re always looking for people with transferable skills, a shop assistant might have just the passion for customer service we look for, or a school leaver who is good with working with their hands could make a great engineer. We’ve had people who have joined us as waiters, barmen, and holiday shop workers go on to become senior managers, cabin crew and even pilots. It can be a stepping to stone to a career that will bring you into contact with the best in the business, where you’ll travel the world, forge friendships that will last a lifetime, work with extraordinary people and do amazing things”.
