The world we live in is a wonderful place. No matter where you turn, there are new sights to see, new people to meet, new stories to hear, and new foods to eat. There are cities lit up bright all through the night, and secluded sandy beaches drenched in sunlight. I’ve been lucky to experience so much of it with my own two eyes – so now I’m making it my mission to urge others to try it on for size.
Sadly, research shows that so many people don’t take enough time off work. In fact, one third of Britain’s working population are not taking their total annual leave allowance, and instead opting to stay in the office. This is shocking behaviour, which is detrimental to both the health of the individuals and the success of the businesses where they work.
Having a busy career doesn’t mean that you can’t live your life to the fullest. I know this better than most. It’s important to prepare for the demands of the everyday, but it’s equally as crucial to enjoy life.
I take every August off to holiday. I like to use the time to work on my wellbeing, relax and have fun with my family. At the end of the break I always feel motivated to get stuck back into work, and excited to take on new projects. Holidays have a wonderful power to boost your health and happiness, and as well as clear your thoughts of the clutter that’s been stifling your creativity.
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have spent a lot of my life travelling and visiting places that have moved me to think differently and take Virgin where other businesses would never dream of going. It’s amazing how much you can broaden your mind and find inspiration in new settings.
If, like me, you love to live your life with no what-ifs , I can guarantee you that you’ll never regret travelling. In fact, when you’re older, your fondest and most vivid memories will more than likely be of the times you spent exploring and trying things for the first time.
Life is for living – it’s certainly not for spending time cooped up in an office. Swap your desk chair for an airplane seat. There’s inspiration and excitement galore, out there just waiting for you to explore.
In order to help you #GetOutOfOffice, Virgin Atlantic is currently offering discounts on flights to a range of destinations. So, what are you waiting for? As Dr Seuss wrote – in one of my favourite books of all time, Oh, the places you’ll go! – “Today is your day. You’re off to great places! You’re off and away!”
