BRIT Award-winning, platinum-selling London four-piece Rudimental and hit-makers Gorgon City will take to the skies to perform the first ever gig to be live streamed over the Atlantic Ocean. The two London based bands will wow an exclusive audience of super fans on the inaugural flight of the new Virgin Atlantic 787, as it flies from London to Atlanta, USA for the very first time on Thursday 23rd October 2014. Audiences around the world will be able to enjoy the gig as it becomes the first to be live streamed via wi-fi whilst the 787 is flying over the Atlantic Ocean.
Titled #FlightDecks, the gig will see Rudimental play back-to-back with North London duo Gorgon City in a DJ collaboration taking place 30,000 feet above the Atlantic. The one-time-only DJ sets will be streamed live on Thursday 23rd October 2014 and will be available to hear via SoundCloud immediately afterwards. Fans of Rudimental and Gorgon City can also register for a chance to win seats on the inaugural flight of the 787 at flightdecks.virginatlantic.com.
“We are all buzzing for this gig,” said Rudimental’s Amir Amor. “We’ve played some pretty mental shows over the past 2 years but I think this is going to be a memorable one!” Rudimental are currently working on their much anticipated second album following the phenomenal success of their critically acclaimed debut Home, which was released last year. The four-piece are making a name for themselves Stateside on tour with Ed Sheeran and will be back in the UK to headline iTunes Festival on 20th September.
“We are really close with the Rudimental boys and have supported them on tour in the UK and Australia this year,” said Kye Gibbon of Gorgon City. “I can’t wait to play back-to-back with them on the flight and I think we are all going to bring a few specials to the mix!”
Hot on the heels of top 10 hits Ready For Your Love and Here For You, Gorgon City will release their debut album Sirens on Monday 6th October via Black Butter / Virgin EMI. Featuring Jennifer Hudson, Katy B and Maverick Sabre to name just a few, the album will see the duo taking their electronic beats from North London to the world with the release of new single ‘Unmissable’ featuring Zak Abel on 29th September 2014. Gorgon City’s 30-date ‘Sirens’ album tour covers the UK, US and Europe starting on 6th October.
Flying from ‘old’ England to New England, the 787’s first regular passenger flights will be between London Heathrow and Boston, with the aircraft flying the route from the 28th October 2014 and operating six of Virgin Atlantic’s seven weekly services.
Celebrating Virgin Atlantic’s 30th year, the new 787 aircraft is named ‘Birthday Girl’ and features some very special paintwork. For the first time ever, the iconic Virgin Atlantic ‘Flying Lady’ will be displayed face on – and she is carrying a celebratory champagne coupe!
As well as passenger benefits, the 787 will bring major environmental benefits to Virgin Atlantic. Radically improved fuel efficiency means it is 21% more efficient on a per flight basis than the equivalent sized aircraft in Virgin’s fleet, allowing it to be a major driver of the airline’s commitment to improve carbon efficiency by 30% before 2020.
“The 787 is a big step forward for us in terms of both innovation and our commitment to constantly delight our customers,” said Fay Burgin, our Head of Global PR. “With this in mind, we want to make sure that Birthday Girl’s inaugural flight is truly memorable. Bringing together two cutting edge music artists and attempting an absolute world first feels like a good way to cement the 787 as the centrepiece of our fleet.
