Virgin Atlantic can reveal that almost 20,000 British holidaymakers are taking to the skies this weekend to make the most of the extra bank holiday weekend.
We’re seeing record numbers of UK travellers taking advantage of the Jubilee weekend to have a nine day holiday for just three days off work.
As soon as the Jubilee bank holiday was announced passengers rushed to book flights in June and we’ve revealed that bookings are up 15% on the same time last year.
Poor weather throughout April and May has also influenced passengers, with many heading to Orlando, Barbados, St Lucia, Los Angeles and Miami in search of guaranteed hot weather.
The airline has also seen an increase in passengers giving themselves the royal treatment as bookings in the Upper Class cabin has increased by 21% from last year.
Virgin Atlantic passenger Teja Bains commented:
“I definitely want to thank the Queen for this extra bank holiday. I’m heading off to New York for over a week yet only missing three days of work. It’s a shame I’ll be missing out on the celebrations back in the UK but the chance to head off on holiday was just too good to miss. I’ll look forward to the royal celebrations in Union Jack Square instead.”
The Virgin Atlantic teams around the world are offering Brits abroad a taste of the Jubilee celebrations in Sydney, New York and Barbados. Travellers in New York should join the airline and head to Union Square or Union Jack Square as it will be known over the Jubilee weekend, whilst sunseekers in Barbados can enjoy a Caribbean style street party down in St Lawrence Gap. Tourists in Sydney can take part in a tea party with a twist at the Lower Town Hall at a Mad Hatters Tea Party hosted by Virgin Atlantic’s red hot cabin crew.
