Here at Virgin Atlantic we’re always looking at innovative ways to engage with our customers and keep them entertained both at the airport and on board, so we’re partnering with Blippar for one month to launch a digital scavenger hunt style game for customers travelling out of London Gatwick Airport.
Wish you were here?
The game will use Augmented Reality to bring different images to life and encourages children and adults to take photos of themselves and have a bit of fun with the technology before they board their flight.
Augmented Reality works when a mobile device is pointed at an image and the image “˜comes alive’ by displaying graphics that appear to occupy the same space as you. For example; the new digital IKEA catalogue gives the viewer a 360/180 degree view of a room in their home, giving them the ability to put furniture where they want.
So how does it work?
Customers will collect a postcard when they drop off their bags which will give them clues to help find five different images dotted around the departure lounge and gates. Using the Blippar app (which is free to download and available on all platforms), customers can scan each poster they find to see the different images come to life on their device, creating an interactive scene that customers can jump into.
Displaying various graphics including an aircraft, a pilot’s hat, surf board, rollercoaster and an aircraft window, customers can take a picture of themselves within the scene, creating a personalised postcard.
All the images are ‘blippable’ anywhere, so when you’ve created yours remember to share it with us on Facebook and Twitter. And even if you’re not travelling from Gatwick any time soon, you can still play along. Simply download Blippar and blip these images to create your own personal postcards. Happy blipping!
