Exploring New York on two wheels is one of the most exhilarating ways to see the city. It’s green, healthy, fun and memorable, and there are miles of safe and level cycle paths throughout all five boroughs which will take you through several neighbourhoods in a day with ease.
Bike and Roll, one of the city’s most established bike rental and tour companies, offers both guided and self-guided tours and is launching six brand new tours around New York City from tomorrow, 14th April 2012.
New Bike and Roll tours in New York
The new tours include Ride “˜Round Manhattan, a seven-hour, 32 mile ride which circumnavigates the entire island of Manhattan starting in a clockwise direction from Battery Park. Heading up the Hudson River Park’s bike path, you’ll pass marinas and luxury yachts before heading into Harlem and returning along the opposite shore, under Williamsburg, Manhattan and finally the Brooklyn Bridge.
The Three Islands Tour is a four-and-a-half hour, 8 mile ride starting in Brooklyn (Long Island), where you’ll get the opportunity to explore the trendy DUMBO neighbourhood before crossing Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan. A short but fascinating ride around the southern tip will bring you to the ferry for Governors Island, and after a tour and a picnic, the rest of the day is yours to explore at your leisure.
The 9/11 Memorial Tour begins at Pier 84, and as you make your way south along the Hudson, you’ll see many of New York’s icons including the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and Ellis Island. When you reach Battery Park, you’ll temporarily leave your bikes and walk to the 9/11 Memorial for a tour which is included in the price of your ticket.
The Bike & Boat Guided Tour is a combination of land and water adventures with a bike tour of Manhattan and Brooklyn plus a boat ride for views of Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Other new tours are New York at Night, which departs from Central Park and heads down Fifth Avenue and into Times Square, and Central Park & Beyond, which includes lesser-visited stops including the Conservatory Gardens and Harlem Meer.
Bike and Roll tours range from $35-$55 for children under 12 and from $50-$99 for adults. For full details of all tours and locations around New York City, see www.bikeandroll.com/newyork
