Chinese New Year festivities begin today and we’ve already written about all the special traditions and how to enjoy them in Shanghai. But there’s another city that loves to celebrate Chinese New Year in spectacular style, and that city is Hong Kong.
If you happen to be in Hong Kong over the new year period, then you’re in for a treat as the Year of the Dragon is about to be welcomed with a dazzling International Night Parade, mind-blowing fireworks, gorgeous flower markets, plenty of sporting events and a whole host of other celebrations. Here’s a brief rundown of how you can enjoy the show…
- Don’t miss the free-to-watch International Chinese New Year Night Parade which starts tonight at 8pm, and will feature a range of stunning illuminated floats accompanied by performance groups from Hong Kong and around the world. Get yourself to the Sik Sik Yuen Wong Tai Sin Temple for midnight, and you’ll be able to watch the locals stream through the gates to try and be the first to plant incense, said to bring good luck for the year ahead.
- On the 24th January at 8pm, the famous Lunar New Year Fireworks Display will take place, and you’ll get the best views on the Avenue of the Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui or over at Wan Chai near the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.
- Chinese New Year Race Day on the 25th January is an absolute must for those who enjoy a little flutter on the horses. Head on over to the Sha Tin Racecourse and hopefully the air of good fortune will help you back a winner.
