Who better to chat about shopping in Sin City than Vegas local Maureen Crampton, Director of marketing and business development at The Forum Shops, one of Vegas’ premier shopping destinations. She works with some of the best fashion retailers in the country as well as being a true Las Vegas local.
What is your vice, being a Las Vegas native?
Oh, that’s coffee. I love coffee shops and let’s face it, in Las Vegas, they’re everywhere. I go to the drive-thru on my way to work almost every day. Alternatively, if I have a little time I like to meet with friends at SambaLatte on the West side of Las Vegas.
You have all of the world’s retailers at your fingertips. Who are your favourites?
One of my favourite stores has always been Anthropologie – such a great mix of merchandise. I honestly don’t think I have ever walked out of the store without buying something. Michael Kors is a must – our Michael Kors store has the most exceptional customer service””they have raised the bar. My list would not be complete if I did not include Tiffany & Co. It’s the perfect place to find the perfect gift, and there is just something about walking out of Tiffany with that little blue bag that makes you feel extra special.
What’s your favourite place to dine on the Strip?
I am a big fan of Spago – it is a long time favourite. Consistently terrific, food and service. And then there is always The Palm, Joe’s Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab, Trevi Italian Restaurant, Sushi Roku – to name just a few others that are near and dear to my heart.
What about off the Strip?
Vintner Grill is an all time favourite – it is subtly tucked away in the middle of an office park. Once you discover it, it’s such a pleasant surprise. The atmosphere is very relaxing and comfortable, the menu is perfect, and they feature a wonderful outdoor patio with individual cabanas. It’s a place where you can always count on running into someone you know.
So what do you do in Vegas if you’re not on the Strip?
There are two places I thoroughly enjoy and both are very different. I have always gotten a big kick out of ‘antiquing’ or shopping for nostalgic, fun pieces with more emphasis on furnishings or accessories for my home rather than clothing. I love adding in an old bench that was found in a farmhouse and putting it in the same room as a leather sofa – especially pieces that have a history behind them. We have some excellent shopping destinations in the Downtown area”¨that offer some great finds. Red Rock Canyon is another favourite””so beautiful and intriguing. Not only the rock formations but the diversity in natural colourisation “” I find it so interesting. And it is just 30 minutes away from the strip.
