With just over a week to go until Mother’s Day in the UK (Sunday 18th March) we’ve put together a selection of London’s most tempting treats for the ultimate way to spoil your mum this year…
Weekend Film Club at the Charlotte Street Hotel
Just north of Soho, the immaculately elegant yet non-stuffy Charlotte Street Hotel is the perfect place to hunker down for the afternoon, with a special Mother’s Day version of its weekly Film Club in the hotel’s own state-of-the-art screening room. This year, the feature is the latest adaptation of Jane Eyre starring Jamie Bell, Judi Dench and Michael Fassbender, and the entry price of £40 also includes a sumptuous three-course lunch or afternoon tea. There are two screenings at 2.30pm and 5pm. Glamourous sister property the Soho Hotel has a similar offering, featuring 1960s drama The Helpalong with a three-course special menu.
Mother’s Day Ruin Gin Making Workshop
Is your dear old mum partial to a gin & tonic or three? There can’t be many more enjoyable ways of indulging her with her favourite tipple than partaking in this Mother’s Day Ruin Gin Making Workshop at Camden’s liveliest arts venue The Forge. Run by Ian Hart of Highgate Hill’s Sacred Spirits Company, the afternoon promises a fun and informative DIY gin blending session with the opportunity to mix your own martini and G&Ts. Specially paired canapés are included in the price, or opt for brunch or lunch beforehand at the Forge’s Foundry Restaurant. Proceedings kick off at 2.30pm and tickets cost £25.
Afternoon Tea Cruise on the River Thames
Thames boat cruise company City Cruises are offering a one and a half-hour Mother’s Day Afternoon Tea glide along the river past the capital’s most recognisable landmarks. Departing from St. Katherine’s Pier at 3.30pm, the cruise also has face painters on board to entertain children – a great way to ensure harassed mums are able to sit back and enjoy round after round of clotted cream scones and fancy pastries in peace. Tickets cost £26 for adults and £13 for children.
Florimania at Hampton Court Palace
Open over the whole Mother’s Day weekend, Florimania is a collection of stunning baroque-inspired flower arrangements. Available to view in William III’s State Apartments as part of your overall admission to Hampton Court Palace, your ticket (£16.95 per adult) also includes full access to Henry VIII’s apartments and the palace’s manicured gardens. Flower-arranging demonstrations will also take place at 11.30am, 12.30pm and 2.00pm each day. And don’t forget to treat your mum to a floral cupcake in the Tiltyard Cafe before you leave.
Spa Package at the Landmark London
The Mum in a Million Mother’s Day Spa Package at the gorgeous Landmark London hotel is conveniently available not only on Mother’s Day but throughout the whole of March. The £120 cost (£130 in peak times) includes a luxury facial and eye treatment especially designed for ‘maturing’ skins, along with a personalised skin analysis and access to all the spa and health club facilities for the duration of your stay, including a chlorine-free heated pool, sanarium and monsoon showers, mosaic-tiled steam room and relaxation room.
