Our destinations are home to some of the world’s most luxurious hotels and spas, and it’s round about this time of year that we start to crave a bit of pampering.
The Five Diamond Gemstone Facial at the Aria Las Vegas
An entirely appropriate treatment for those mourning the closure of the Liberace museum, the Five Diamond Gemstone at the Aria Hotel’s spa is a luxurious anti-aging facial which renews the skin with a special serum rich in micronised diamonds and pure orchid extract. An exotic rose and peony thermal masque is then applied, sealing in all the valuable ingredients and leaving the skin feeling more youthful and brightened.
Don’t rush off after your treatment – there’s a whopping 80,000 square foot of tranquil spa to enjoy here at the Aria.
The Golfer’s Tonic at Sandy Lane, Barbados
It’s a hard life, swanning around the grounds of Barbados’s most celebrated resort. You’ll undoubtedly benefit from a little trip to the Sandy Lane spa at the end of the day, where a highly qualified therapist will administer the Golfer’s Tonic; a one and a half hour treatment comprising a deep tissue massage and the Enrich Foot Therapy.
‘Inspired by the Americas’ Spa Experience at the Aman Spa, London
With therapists who practice daily meditation in order to better sense the needs of their clients, you’re in good hands. The Aman Spa at the Connaught Hotel draws inspiration from ancient cultures and traditions around the world, and their extremely decadent two and a half hour ‘Spa Experiences’ are the last word in relaxation.
The wellness rituals of Thailand, China, India and the Americas are at the heart of these experiences, with the ‘Americas’ treatment grounding the body energetically and physically using ancient Navajo techniques. Things kick off with a cleansing foot bath with Navajo sage and cedar, and continue with a red clay body wrap and river rock stone massage. The entire treatment works wonders for those who suffer from insomnia, as the herbs and techniques used are renowned for restoring normal sleep patterns. And if you happen to drift off mid-treatment, make sure you stop by the hotel’s atmospheric Coburg Bar for an Espresso Martini on your way out.
Africology African Potato Manicure at the Librisa Spa, Cape Town
If your hands are sore after pulling the corks out of all those bottles of Cape wine, treat yourself to this rather bizarre sounding anti-aging manicure at the Mount Nelson hotel’s Librisa Spa which promises better flexibility and strength for your skin and nails. An intense African Potato Mask, blended with pure African ingredients such as Rooisbos, Aloe and Marula antioxidants is applied to ensure continued skin health and rejuvenated, naturally hydrated hands. And if that doesn’t take you over your carb limit for the day, the Africology potato experience comes in a full body wrap version too, and is especially soothing and effective for sun-damaged skin.
Prolong the pampering with a post-treatment visit to the Finnish sauna, steam bath and plunge pool or just lay back with a herbal tea and enjoy the incredible views of Table Mountain and the peaceful surroundings of the pretty Victorian conservatory.
The Hangover Facial at Nickel Men’s Spa, New York
Are you a stylish and busy urban male? If so, you fit the profile of the average Nickel Men’s Spa client perfectly. Nickel offers a complete range of men’s facials, jet lag treatments, body scrubs and peels and stress-busting deep-tissue massages, as well as a wide variety of manicures, pedicures and waxes. But let’s stick with the facials for now…
The Hangover Facial comprises a relaxing face and neck massage followed by a soothing mask, and finished with moisturiser and a morning-after rescue gel to re-energise you for the day ahead. If you’ve spent most of your time in New York getting acquainted with the bars of Chelsea and the Meatpacking district, you’ll only be a hop and a skip away from Nickel’s West Village location when the morning comes, so there’s no excuse for not looking refreshed and dapper at your lunch meeting.
Soma, Nectar of Gods at Jiva Spa, Udaipur
Situated within the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur – one of the world’s most spectacularly located hotels – the Jiva, meaning ‘innerforce’, has based all its treatments on a deep belief in the interdependency of mind, body and spirit. The emphasis is firmly on a holistic approach, with ‘wellness cuisine’ provided and yoga and meditation encouraged.
That’s not to say the pursuit of total pleasure is discouraged though – far from it. Soma, Nectar of Gods, the romantic and indulgent five-hour spa experience for couples takes place on the Royal Jiva Spa Boat as it moves across the still waters of Lake Pichola. Featuring a spacious air-conditioned spa suite, sky deck, relaxation lounge, steam bath, soak pool and shower, your candle-lit spa boat experience allows you to lie back and enjoy a traditional Indian aromatherapy massage with the Aravalli mountains as your backdrop. Celebrate your union over a bottle of Champagne in the rose petal-sprinkled tub – perfect for honeymooners.
Carrot Carrot Carrot at the Farmhouse Inn, California
Tucked deep in the Russian River valley of Sonoma County about an hour’s drive north of San Francisco, the Farmhouse Inn and Spa is a ‘destination farm stay’ with an organic and sustainable ethos. Not only does the highly-praised restaurant’s food come locally-sourced and seasonal, the spa treatments do too.
The farm-to-treatment spa sources as many ingredients as possible at its own ranch and gardens, including heirloom cider apples, forest honey, herbs and organic grape seeds for the ‘Orchard’ range of facial masks and hair treatments.
The Carrot Carrot Carrot treatment is a three hour session where the skin and hair is saturated with rich emollients and calmed with a massage, before a brisk exfoliation and a yoghurt peel. A rich carrot mask is then applied to plump up the cells and left to do its magic while you receive a foot reflexology session and a carrot seed oil massage. A final lavender and orange scalp treatment crowns the occasion – yum.
The Emerald Ceremony at Amara Spa, Dubai
Located on the banks of Dubai Creek and using indigenous Arabic touches in its treatments, the Amara Spa at the Park Hyatt Dubai offers a highly selective range of therapies. The Emerald Ceremony lasts two hours, and begins with a hand and foot rose petal bath in one of the luxury suite’s private outdoor terraces, which features a unique outdoor rainshower. While you relax, you’ll be able to select your own playlist for the rest of your experience.
Back in your suite, an aromatherapy body polish prepares the body for a seaweed bath and lymphatic drainage massage, before hot mud infused with oils of juniper, rosemary and pine is applied to induce maximum dispersion of toxins, making this treatment ideal for weight control and fatigue. As you come back down to earth, you’ll be offered tea and dates in the spa’s beautiful tranquility garden.
Chun: Pure Bliss for Children at I-Spa, Hong Kong
With one of the most extensive range of leisure facilities of any hotel in Hong Kong, the Intercontinental’s I-Spa offers a number of treatments in its outdoor spa pool cabanas, which in the case of the Chun, Pure Bliss for Childrentreatment, is a less intimidating environment for our pampered little ones to be introduced to the world of well-being.
Performed by sensitive and caring therapists, the experience includes a gentle scalp, legs and feet massage, with lemongrass and orange oil massaged on to the back and arms, and finished with a special fresh fruit drink. The treatment can be a godsend for parents of those whose sleep patterns are less than perfect, as it often sends them straight off to the land of nod. A good pre-bedtime choice.
Doga at Exhale Spa, Miami
Every possible mind, body, fitness, beauty and grooming treatment you can think of is on offer here including – yes – yoga for you and your dog. Sitting under the category of ‘Canine Wellness’, your 30-minute Doga session is led by a certified yoga instructor and offered on a one-to-one basis – one human, and one furry friend.
The session incorporates meditation (the mind boggles…) massage and yoga, and can be experienced either in the studio or by the pool. According to Exhale, dog massage and yoga has so many benefits, both physical and psychological, that it is has become an essential part of canine health; similar to grooming and exercise.
