One of our favourite spots for truly great food in NYC is the 21 Club. If you want to experience some serious New York history while you enjoy a meal of international cuisine this is definitely the place to go – it’s one of the bars that survived Prohibition in the 1930s with an elaborately hidden wine cellar available for people in the know – and with a secret password. Even in modern times, sitting in the intimate upstairs restaurant with a glass of champagne somehow feels naughty!
For a night on the town, and for the kind of music that you cant help but dance to, we go to Santos Party House. It’s always bursting with soul and pop classics, hip-hop DJs and live acts that will make anyone feel footloose – and if you’re unsure of anything, the signs on the walls tell you everything you need to know for the night: “All Dancing Allowed” and “Santos Loves You”.
Heading back to the Hotel Gansevoort after a full day in the city could not be more welcome. Not only is it one of the sexiest New York hotels, but its located in the oh-so-hip Meatpacking District – only a stone’s throw away from some of the most celebrated restaurants in Manhattan. We especially love its heated rooftop pool for a blissful morning swim overlooking the Hudson River.
Everyone knows that no trip to New York City is complete without a walk through Central Park, but we like to take it a step further with Open Air Yoga by the Turtle Pond where you can tune in to the peaceful side of the city after a busy few days. Though if that’s not your thing, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is right nearby so you can slink off and hide amongst a millennium’s worth of art, including works by Picasso, Vermeer and O’Keefe. And at some point during your stay, be sure to pick up a copy of The New York Times – it was all because its offices moved into what used to be known as “Longacre Square” that we now know it as the world famous “˜Times Square’!
