What’s been on our web radar this week? There’s stuff for foodies, some fab events coming up in New York, and a rather unique musical extravaganza in London tonight…
Trucker’s Delight in Miami
Following on from our recent article on the best food trucks in some of our US destinations, we were excited via Thrillist that top Miami blogger Burger Beast has launched an iPhone app for tracking the exact locations of all of Miami’s food trucks at any given time (and some in Orlando and Tampa too). Not only is it a really useful and simple app, it’s also a great discovery resource for visiting foodies who may not be aware of the extent of Miami’s food truck scene – the app’s launch party last week had some 60 of Miami’s best food trucks in attendance, from the Big Kahuna ice cream truck to the Red Koi for Thai and sushi, to Havana Rice for some Latin specialities.
Sporting Steaks in Chicago
And while we’re on the subject of food, a venue that we first learned about a couple of months go via Grub Street Chicago has now opened.Virgin Atlantic Flying Club members (and anyone else) visiting our partner hotel, the Intercontinental on Chicago’s Michigan Avenue, can now treat themselves to an upscale dining experience courtesy of basketball legend Michael Jordan, whose steakhouse opened last week to some pretty appreciative (and surprised) reviews.
Fall Fun in New York
We loved this absolutely comprehensive guide to autumn adventures 101 Things to Do in New York City in the Fall from Time Out’s New York pages.
Highlights include the city’s Open House weekend (Oct 15/16) where the general public can explore normally out-of-bounds landmark buildings and architectural treasures (this year including the fab Nitehawk Cinema in Brooklyn neighbourhood Willamsburg) and the inventively attired pooches of the Tompkins Square Park Halloween Dog Parade in Greenwich Village. An essential reading list if you’re heading to the Big Apple in the next couple of months.
We can always rely on our friends at Le Cool to tip us off about all the good stuff going on in London and they’ve come up trumps this week by pointing us in the direction of the Video Games Heroes event tonight at the Royal Festival Hall. For one night only, you’ll be able to hear all your favourite game soundtracks brought to life in epic fashion by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, including Super Mario Bros, Tetris, Angry Birds, Grand Theft Auto and many more… a musical treat which sounds both bonkers and brilliant.
