Skyscrapers, beauty queens, chocolate, cabaret and Mad Men, our web travel round-up has gone decadent this week”¦
Choc fest London
London based or bound chocoholics will surely have found something to feast their eyes on in our post about the city’s best Artisan Chocolatiers – and if you are in town this weekend, don’t miss out on the Easter Chocolate Festival at the Southbank Centre on Sunday.
Coast to coast fun and games
If you’re off to Los Angeles any time soon and fancy something more challenging to go with your sunbathing and shopping, head to the scrabble night at The Standard Downtown LA. The free, hosted event is held every Tuesday and has a DJ, snacks and centres on a huge, almost human-sized Scrabble board.
For younger/more future-focussed gamers visiting New York in May, you might want to sign up for Finding The Future: The Game, a unique interactive event at New York Public Library combining “real-world missions with virtual clues and online collaboration”.
Drinks with Don
Fans of ice cool TV drama don’t have to be in the Apple to live out their Don Draper dreams. Down in DC, you can soak up just as much suave, sophisticated ambience at the city’s Best bars for a “˜Mad Men’ vibe. Smooth.
For your other, more down to earth evenings in the city, check out the Washington Post’s round up of Five Happy Hour Destinations.
Hong Kong on a high
Already known for its incredible views Hong Kong is about to afford its visitors another spectacular observation deck, with the opening of Sky100 next week. The International Commerce Centre (the world’s fourth tallest building) will offer a spectacular 360-degree panorama of the city from West Kowloon.
If that wasn’t enough, the newly opened five-star Ritz-Carlton Hong Kong within the same building, lays claim to the title of world’s tallest hotel – it starts at the 102nd floor. We’re saving up for our sky high stay now.
Circus of sin in the city
Following runs in New York and Miami, groundbreaking show Absinthe finds its true home in Vegas with its opening this month. The adult carnival transforms the Roman Plaza in front of Caesars Palace into an entertainment playground, complete with a secret speakeasy, immersing the audience in the “acro-cabaret variety show”.
And finally, if you haven’t already, check out the photo tour of our brand new Virgin Atlantic A330 Airbus, Beauty Queen, which has been turning a lot of heads this week.
