January 3, 2012

So… with the festive season now officially behind us and nothing but the dark wintry days of January and February to look forward to, there’s no better time to bring the sunshine back and start planning this year’s travels.

Between sips of sherry and mountains of mince pies, if you missed the details of our current Virgin Atlantic Sale consider this a gentle nudge. You can now book low sale fares to all our fantastic destinations up to January 24th 2012, including our new route to Vancouver (launching on the 24th May 2012) and our new route to Cancun (launching on the 12th June 2012).

Where to go?

Stuck for travel inspiration this year? Here’s a few of our favourite things to do in some of the great places we fly to…

Take a classic US road trip

Here at vtravelled, we are big, big fans of getting out on the open road, and with flights to nine of America’s greatest cities you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to hitting the highway. If California and the Pacific Coast Highway have always been high on your wishlist, check out our features on two showstopping drives from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara and San Francisco to Point Reyes. Further inland, if you’re thinking of visiting Las Vegas, why not combine with an adventurous road trip into the desert? Our post on driving from Las Vegas to Death Valley National Park explains how. And if Florida is more your thing then we’ve got the lowdown on what to see in the Florida Keys – a classic drive along the Overseas Highway from Miami to Key West – as well as an alternative trip from Miami to the Everglades.

Experimenting with local delicacies, finding great coffee, searching out a city’s best breakfast, dining in style or just dining in diners – there’s no doubt that the pleasure of eating out plays a huge role in the enjoyment of any trip. Regular readers will know how much we love to discover great places to eat and drink on our travels; we write about them often enough after all. Off to New York? We’ve got cheap and healthy food on the go, where to find NYC’s best breakfasts, and the best cocktail bars to finish off the night. We’ve got food trucks and Cuban fare in Miami, the best coffee shops in San Francisco and London, dining on a dime in Las Vegas, new wave gastronomy in Delhi, the best bars and restaurants in Dubai and very fine dining in Sydney.

Grab some winter sun

If the thought of waiting three months for the clocks to go forward again is just too much, we’ve got plenty of ideas for finding some winter sun. Down in the Caribbean there are festivals in Grenada to be enjoyed, perfect retreats in Antigua to escape to, and we’ve pretty much sorted your nightlife in Havana and souvenir shopping in Jamaica. We’ve also got wildlife-spotting around Cape Town, what to see beyond the beaches in Goa and the best beaches in Sydney.

However you decide to get away from it all, don’t miss out on our fabulous fares to the US, Asia, the Caribbean and the Middle East – we’ve got Orlando from £395, Dubai from £411, San Francisco from £437, Barbados from £500, Hong Kong from £520 and many more. Visit our Sale pages for full details. And remember to book by January 24th to ensure you get a great deal.
